January 26, 2006

Dear Neighbors,

I hope your 2006 is off to a great start.  Here are the latest bits of information from around Lumberton.

Township Committee Re-Organization:  The Township Committee held its annual re-organization meeting on January 3rd.  Beverly Marinelli and Buddy Miller were sworn in as new Committee members.  John Pagenkopf was selected as Mayor, and I was selected as Deputy Mayor.

Township Completed Traffic Calming Study in Bobby's Run:  Late last year, a consulting group for the NJ Department of Transportation completed a traffic calming study with options for calming traffic along Bobby's Run Boulevard and around the Bobby's Run School complex.  Earlier this month, the Township Committee agreed to a series of changes to Bobby's Run Boulevard that include raised cross walks by the school complex and Freeman park, left turn lanes at Dimsdale Road, radar equipped speed limit signs, bike lanes, limits on truck traffic and a sign on Eayrestown Road North prior to Bobby's Run Boulevard that indicates Route 38 is straight ahead (aka "Don't turn down Bobby's Run Boulevard to get to Route 38.").

The township plans to apply for grants from the state and federal governments to pay for these improvements.  The estimated cost of the improvements is around $250,000.

Lumberton Gets $80,000 in Free Dirt:  Ferrell Concrete is donating 300 big truck loads of dirt from a project in Mount Laurel to Lumberton Township.  The dirt has a value of approximately $80,000.  The dirt will be used to level the land adjacent to the township building to create five more multi-purpose fields and start building a community sledding hill.   The dirt is scheduled to be delivered in late January or early February.

Mom's Club Growing:  The Mom's Club of Lumberton Area is growing.  The club hosts a monthly play group meeting on the first Wednesday of each month in the Community Room at the Lumberton Municipal Center.  The group is open to all moms in the Lumberton area.  The next playgroup meeting is Wednesday, February 1st.  The group also coordinates other events for local moms.  For more information, contact Meg Freudenrich at (609) 261-1613 or membership@momscluboflumbertonarea.com.

New Eagle Scout:  Billy Green, Jr. became Lumberton's first Eagle Scout since the Lumberton Boy Scout Troop was restarted about six years ago.  The Lumberton Boy Scout troop has about 22 members.  There are approximately 105 Cub Scouts in the pipeline.
