Dear Neighbors,
Last summer I built this
email list while organizing the successful fight against
rezoning across from the Bobby's Run School. As part of
that effort, many of you have asked me to keep you
updated on developments in town.
Today, I am
starting a monthly email newsletter, called "Lumberton
E-News". The newsletter is free and will focus on issues
facing our local government bodies and other major
events in the Lumberton.
I've automatically
subscribed you since you already provided me your email
address. If you do not want to be subscribed, please
accept my apology and reply to this email with the word
"unsubscribe" in the subject line.
Here are
a few interesting items that came out of the February
Township Committee meeting.
Property Tax
Increase. There was a discussion that the School
Board indicated that taxes are going up again this year.
They did not say by how much and couldn't until the
budget gets approved by the state. There will be a
referendum on this will be scheduled for April 24th.
New Ordinance Prohibiting Street
Obstructions. The Township Committee passed a new
ordinance prohibiting people from leaving things in the
street such as portable basketball nets, landscaping
supplies, and just about anything else except a
registered motor vehicle.
Proposed New Open
Space Committee. There was 1st reading of a proposed
ordinance to create an Open Space Advisory Committee.
The committee would advise and make recommendations to
the Township Committee on the use, management and
acquisition of public land for the township. The final
reading and a vote are scheduled for the Township
Committee meeting on March 17th.
Possible Tax
Reassessment Coming? The Township Administrator made
a brief statement, that the township's Tax Assessor
wanted to speak to the Township Committee at their March
Working Session about Re-Assessment. Working sessions
are open to the public. Members
of the public are provided an opportunity to comment at
the of each meeting.
I hope you
find this information useful. Please feel free to
forward this to your neighbors. If you have any
feedback, recommendations or to subscribe another email
address, please feel free to email me at patrickdelany@lumbertonenews.com.
