Dear Neighbors,
This issue has some news on the flood, the
liquor license, the Crispin Road bridge, an upcoming Rancocas
Valley referendum, and changes to our voting
districts. Plus, the
Community
Calendar has quite a few events scheduled
between now and the end of June.
Flood
of 2007 Update:
On April 16, 74 homes, the Lumberton Fire
Department, and the Ironwood Outdoor Center
were flooded again when 7.5 inches of rain
caused the Rancocas Creek to overflow its
banks. Nineteen homes sustained first floor damage and 55
homes had
significant basement flooding. The
federal government declared Burlington County
and 11 other counties in New Jersey a disaster
area allowing FEMA to provide some financial
assistance to residents of Burlington
County who sustained flood damage. FEMA set up
shop in the municipal building for local
residents to apply for assistance.
The township has a
flood assistance hotline, 609-267-3217
x3106. People in need of assistance and
people offering assistance are both encouraged
to call the hotline. The township will
work to match up the needs of residents with
the assistance available. At this point,
most residents are back in their homes and
have completed the major repairs.
However, there are still some residents
requiring specialized assistance and donations
of bigger ticket items such as washers and
driers, gas grills, couches, chairs, microwave
ovens, fans, lamps, and etc. All donations are greatly
appreciated. If you are interested in
donating, you can contact the flood assistance
hotline. All items should be in working
order. The township will then match
donors up with people in need.
Liquor
License: The township is auctioning
a new liquor service license. The
auction is a sealed bid auction. The
township's auction specifications are for a
restaurant on Route 38. The minimum bid
is $750,000. All bids are due to the
municipal clerk by June 28th. Once all
the bids are in, the township is required to
award the license to the highest qualified
bidder. When the township's population
surpassed 12,000 sometime in 2004, the
township became eligible to have an additional
service license.
Crispin
Road Bridge Update:
In February, the Burlington County Engineers
office inspected and repaired the bridge on
Crispin Road. The county plans to
replace the bridge with a wider, more
pedestrian friendly bridge in
2008.
Rancocas
Valley Referendum:
The Rancocas Valley Regional School district
is considering a public referendum for
September to seek voter approval to issue
bonds for needed repairs to the school
facility including a new roof, driveway and
curb repairs as well as some upgrades to the
recreation facilities. The plans are
being reviewed by the NJ Department of
Education to determine if some of the items
qualify for state funding. On some
capital improvements, the Department of
Education will fund up to 52% of the costs of
the improvements. More information will
be provided as it becomes
available.
Redistricting:
As a result of Lumberton's growth over the
past decade, the Board of Elections asked
Lumberton reduce the size of several voting
districts and level the sizes of the existing
districts. The result is that
Lumberton will have two more voting districts
and the polling location for most voters will
change. These changes will take effect
on June 5th primary. Your new polling
place will be stated on the sample ballot that
you will receive in the mail the week before
the primary election. The polling locations for
each district is listed below.
