Dear Friends,

The great clean up effort has begun!  Today several hundred friends, family members, neighbors, church groups and other generally good people came downtown and to the other flood effected areas to help people get their lives back together.  Quite a bit of progress was made today.

However, there is still a lot more work that needs to be done.  We need more volunteers for Sunday and throughout the week.

If you would like to help clean up, here is how you can go about helping:

  1. Report to the Municipal Center Community R no earlier than 9:00 AM.   Make sure you bring an ID card.  You need ID to be allowed into a Disaster Area.
  2. Make sure you wear boots (rubber boots are recommended), long pants, and a long sleeve shirt.  Be prepared to get dirty and wet, especially on Sunday.  The weather forecast calls for rain.
  3. You will be provided with rubber gloves to wear while cleaning up.  You will probably be doing a lot of work with bleach and there are still a lot of chemicals in the water.
  4. You will be assigned a house or a block to work on.  You will also be given directions because you will have to walk from the security barriers to the house.
  5. A volunteer at the township building will give you a sticker so the police and national guard will allow you into the area.

Both the car wash and clothing/household good drive were a big success.  More cleaning supplies, gift certificates to (Lowe's and Wal-Mart are the most preferred), and household appliances are still needed. You can drop them off at the Municipal Center during normal working hours.

Financial donations are also being taken at  the Lumberton Branch of Commerce Bank. Make your check out to the "Lumberton Township Disaster Relief Fund". Please do not drop checks off or send them to the township building. It will only create more confusion. Also, donations are only being taken at the Lumberton branch of Commerce Bank located on Earyestown Road by Super Fresh.

Thanks again to everyone who volunteered to help. I will send out more information as it becomes available.  Please continue to keep our neighbors in your prayers.

Sincerely,

Patrick Delany
