Dear Friends,

In the past two weeks, a lot of hard work has been done. Most of the 108 flooded homes dried and been cleaned out. Those affected are extremely grateful to everyone who volunteered and helped them clean up and get through this difficult ordeal. However, there is still a lot of work ahead to rebuild, and a few families do not have the insurance or financial means to do it alone. So, please help out where you can. Here is a list of areas where help is needed:

Financial: Donations to the "Lumberton Disaster Relief Fund" are being taken in person or via mail at: Commerce Bank 1626 Route 38, Lumberton, NJ 08048. The phone number of Commerce Bank is (609) 702-1445.

A Concert Cook Out Benefit is being held at Dadz Bar and Grill on Sunday August, 22nd from 1:00-5:00 PM. The event is being sponsored by the Mount Holly Rotary Club, the Burlington Rotary Club and Dadz Bar and Grill. All proceeds will be donated to the Lumberton Disaster Relief Fund. Tickets are being sold in advance for $20 each. To learn more about the event and where to purchase tickets, please go to the special Concert Cook Out Benefit page or view the flyer. This page will be updated periodically up until the event so you can stay up to date on any changes.

Donations

  1. The PTA Clothing Drive was an overwhelming success. No more clothing donations are needed. The clothing and other donated items will be at the Ashbrook School available for flood victims to pick up. The pick up schedule is as follows:
    • Monday, August 2nd 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    • Tuesday, August 3rd 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    • Wednesday, August 4th 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

  2. Gift Cards: Gift Cards to Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart and other retail stores are still in demand to help defray the endless cost of tools, cleaning supplies and other necessities. Gift Cards can be dropped off at the Municipal Center.
  3. Appliances and Furniture: There is still a need for household appliances such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc. There is also a need for other big ticket items such as sofas, tables, and chairs. If you have anything like this that you would like to donate, please contact the Rose Conicella at 265-0839. Someone on the Relief Coordination team will make arrangements so the item can be delivered directly to the recipient so it does not need to be moved twice.
  4. Drying Equipment: Many of the homes still need to be completely dried out. Fans and generators are sorely needed. If you have one to donate, please contact Kay Bowker at the municipal center at 267-3217.

Volunteer: Assistance is sorely needed in three areas:

  1. Cleaning: Volunteers are sorely needed on Sunday, August 1st, to help sanitize several homes. The township has all the supplies and tools. If you can make the time, please go to the municipal building between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM on Sunday. The volunteer coordinators will direct you to a specific house.
  2. Relief Liaisons: The township is working in conjunction with the Fellowship Alliance Church (FAC) to get each family the help they need. This varies by home and by family. A database has been set up to track the needs and status of work done at each home. Volunteers are needed to contact a few home owners each day to get updates on their needs and what work has been done. The job entails calling the families each day to get an update on their status, and then providing this feedback to the Relief Coordinators, Beverly Marinelli and Maryann Skarbowski. If you would like to help, please contact Beverly at 261-3346.
  3. General Labor: The FAC and the township are working to get two local Carpentry Unions to help repair homes on the weekend of August 7-8th. Volunteers are needed to help run errands and move building materials. Anyone interested in helping, please contact Maryann Skarbowski at sskarbowski@comcast.net.
  4. Skilled Labor: If you have a building trade or skill such as electrical, air conditioning, carpentry, and etc. that you think may be of value to the flood victims and you would like to volunteer your services, please fill out the Lumberton E-News Contact Form. I will forward it to the relief coordinators. They will work to get you in touch with a family that needs your help.

Sincerely,
