Dear Neighbors,

I hope all you had a great summer.  Here is a quick update on several projects and events going on in Lumberton.

Safe Routes to School:  After two years of delays, the township received the final go ahead from the federal department of transportation to use $156,000 in grants to construct 3,000 feet of sidewalk to connect Little Bobby's Run to the Ashbrook School and to install a couple of crosswalks on Municipal Drive. Lumberton is a pilot program for the safe routes to program and one of the first in the state to implement improvements under this program.. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Creek Clearing:  The Burlington County Bridge Commission awarded the contract to clear the third section of the Rancocas Creek debris.  The third section is a three mile stretch and extends from the Main Street Bridge to Eayrestown Road.  The clean up effort is scheduled to begin around October 1st and finish by January.  Last year, the Bridge Commission cleared out the debris from the first section last year.  After this stage, there are two sections remaining to be cleared.  No timeline has been set on for the final two sections of the creek..

Creek Road Resurfacing: The Burlington County Road Department will be resurfacing Creek Road from Main Street to Chase Road starting on or about September 14th. The project is expected to complete within about a week. Last month, the county road department resurfaced Stacie Haines Road from Fostertown Road into Mount Laurel. The county is also expected to start work on Crispin Road bridge replacement later this year.

Other Public Improvements:  On September 1st, the Township Committee approved the installation of sidewalks on Main Street between the cemetery and the Village Green where there is no existing sidewalk already.  Additionally, the Township Committee approved the installation of two flashing speed limit signs on Bobby's Run Boulevard.  Both projects are expect to be completed by the end of the year.

Hurricane Football:  This Lumberton Hurricane Youth Football program has kicked off.  With over 150 players and 60 cheerleaders, the Hurricanes will play their first home games on the new Municipal Football Field at the municipal center on September 26th.  Over 90% of the players are from Lumberton.  The club is planning a big pep rally for the home opener.

Holiday House Tours:   The Lumberton Historical Society is bringing back the Holiday House Tours.  The tours will be held on December 12th starting at 3:00 PM.  Ticket holders will be welcomed into seven Lumberton homes and public spaces all decorated for the holidays.
